DMPS Virtual Backpack

We are pleased to welcome you to the virtual backpack for Des Moines Public Schools,  our central hub for information about school and community events and information of interest to students and their families. Dear Jefferson Families and Friends,

I would like to formally introduce myself as the new principal of Jefferson Elementary School. I cannot express the level of excitement I have about joining the Jefferson community. I look forward to partnering with you on our journey to educate the leaders of our future.

On a personal level, my wife and I have been married for 22 years, we are proud Florida natives/Iowa captives. We have two children, Nevaeh (19) and Noah (14), who are both DMPS scholars. I currently reside in the Easter Lake neighborhood; we LOVE the southside of Des Moines.

On a professional level, I’ve been with DMPS for 11 years. My first 7 years were spent at Stowe Elementary as a 3rd & 4th grade teacher, and as an interventionist. After obtaining my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Drake University, I joined Hoover High School as an Associate Principal for 3 years. Simply put, I love education and opportunities it provides our youth. I firmly believe the elementary education system has the privilege of discovering and calibrating the natural curiosity and learning desires of all students. At Jefferson, we understand that parents and families are the first and most valuable teachers our students will encounter, we want to partner with you to assure your child becomes a lifelong learner that finds success in their next stages of life. We will do everything in our power to create a positive, safe, learning environment for your child at Jefferson Elementary.

In closing, I am ecstatic about joining and growing with the Jefferson community. I look forward to partnering with you to create an unparalleled learning experience for our students.
